Top Ten Tuesday #4

So I haven’t been able to write much the last week or two, but that happens when you have a new job and a three month old! 🙂 But I’m back and ready to share with you my Top Ten Favorite Book Covers Of Books I’ve Read! 

1. Matched Trilogy by Ally Condie

I liked the covers of the Matched trilogy by Ally Condie for so many reasons. First, I liked that as the trilogy progressed the girl on the cover (Cassia presumably) is breaking out of the bubble. Slowly at first, but then by the end she is free and confident. I also liked that the covers were red, green, and blue just like the colors of the pills in the novel. I thought that the covers were just so well thought out!

2. Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger

This is actually a book I am currently reading, but about 80% of the reason I picked this book up in the first place is because of the cover (the other 20% is because it’s about espionage).

3. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

I can’t really tell you why I like this cover, but it’s a great one!

4. Wither by Lauren DeStefano

I like the scary/romantic feeling of this cover. If you haven’t read the trilogy you are probably wondering how those two things go together. But trust me if you read it the cover actually makes perfect sense!

5. Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick (This is a junior fiction title…but I love it!)

Everything about this book is just breathtaking in my opinion! And as much as I like this cover the illustrations inside are incredible!

6. Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

This book has two covers, but I specifically love the one with the eye. I think it is such an intriguing cover!

7. Heist Society by Ally Carter

I think the girl on the cover looks like she is up to something and I want to know what!

Okay…these last three I haven’t actually read yet, but I really, really want to!

8. The Lions of Little Rock by Kristin Levine

 

I like the innocence of these two little girls holding hands in a time filled with such hate and ignorance. Kids really are awesome!

9. Cinder by Marissa Meyer

 

I like this book because of the cyborg leg. I didn’t even realize it was there the first time I saw the book cover online. Then I saw the book in the store and I was like what is that? Once I saw it was a cyborg Cinderella type story I was sold.

10. These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman

Just beautiful!

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? #2

It’s Monday! What are you reading? is a great way to plan out your week of reading and see what other people are currently reading! Check out more posts at the host of It’s Monday! What are you reading?

Okay, so I post on Wednesdays as well about what I am reading. I don’t want to bore everyone with the same information over and over again so I’m going to make Mondays my “other” readings day. What I mean by that is on Mondays I will post about either a current audiobook I am listening to, a junior or children’s picture book I am reading, or some other various type of reading that I am doing. There are so many great books out there that are not YA books and sometimes I tend to skip over those titles. All of those other books deserve their place in the blogosphere too so Mondays it will be their day to shine…at least on my blog! Enjoy!

Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger

 

This is currently the audiobook I am listening to and I was really, really excited to start this one. I love books on espionage and I love books with private schools and/or boarding schools so this books seemed like it would be perfect for me. However, I am a few chapters into this book and I am just not sure how I feel about it. I was unaware going into it that there would be so many fantastical elements such as werewolves, vampires and floating schools. But I’m going to stick it out and see how this one turns out. I will post a review on it after I finish the book so stay tuned!

As for the audio part of this book I am also unsure how I feel about the accents on this recording. But like I said I will keep reading and see how I feel at the end!

Q: Happy Mother’s Day! Who is your favorite mom from fiction?

Okay, so I couldn’t pick just one! I love Mrs. Weasley (Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling), Mrs. Morgan (Gallagher Girl series by Ally Carter), and Mrs. Garrett (My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick). These are just three of my favorite books/series in general. I feel like I put them on every list and if you haven’t read them all then you definitely should!

Top ten books to read when you need something light and fun!

My list this week is not ten specific books, but rather a few books, a few authors and everything else in between!

1. Harry Potter

I love the entire Harry Potter series, but if I’m looking for something light and fun I really enjoy reading the first three books in the series. They are a little shorter and not as dark as the later books and in my opinion totally fun to read over and over!

2. The Chronicles of Narnia

This series is a great fantasy read! I enjoy these books when I am looking for something to read fast, but something that still has a great plot.
3. Books by Sarah Dessen

I just love the romance (and often the beach) in Sarah Dessen’s novels!
4. Books by Nicholas Sparks

Again, I just enjoy the romance and the (mostly) happily-ever-after endings!
5. The Gallagher Girl series

Teenage girl spies, love stories and lots of adventure. In my opinion, that always equals a lot of fun!
6. A Girl Named Digit

This book is about a girl genius, a group of terrorists, the FBI and like most of my light read favorites- a love story! A perfect combination!
7. Redeeming Love

This is a beautiful story! I consider it a must read and it is wonderful every time!
8. My Life Next Door

The quirky family and the young love in this story make it a light and enjoyable read!
9. Junior Fiction books

I’m a children’s librarian so sometimes when I’m looking for a light read I just pick up a few junior chapter books and call it a day! They are usually funny and full of personality!
10. A big stack of picture books

I try to keep with new and popular picture books so many night you will find me snuggled up with a huge stack of picture books. This may actually be my favorite way to do some light reading! Picture books almost always bring a smile to my face and I love sharing them with my daughter!

Q: Give us a sneak! What are you reading? Tell us about a fun or fail scene in your current read.

I am currently reading Delirium by Lauren Oliver (which so far is an awesome book if you have not read it)!  There is a moment when Lena and Alex sneak into “the wilds” and I loved it. The setting of the wilds was so carefree and romantic! When Alex started quoting I Carry Your Heart by E.E. Cummings and How Do I Love Thee? by Elizabeth Barrett Browning I was just in love! And the fact that poetry was forbidden made it even better. Then you add the stars they were lying under and you have a total swoon worthy moment. I know reading this makes it sound totally cheesy, but it fits the book and the characters perfectly!

Friday Finds #2

Here are titles I have recently discovered and added to my “to-be-read” list! Check out other Friday Finds at Should Be Reading!

1. The Selection by Kiera Cass

I decided to add this book after seeing it reviewed on so many blogs. People seem to have really mixed feelings about this book. They either love it or hate it and I’m curious to see which side of the fence I will fall on. I’ve heard it described multiple times as a mix between the TV show The Bachelor and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. To be honest, The Bachelor is one of my guilty pleasures (I know it’s dumb, but I can’t help it!) so I just have to read this book!

2. Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger

This book is one I stumbled upon on Goodreads. It was recommended to me because I read the Gallagher Girl series (which I loved). If this book is anything like Ally Carter’s series I know it’s a must read!

3. Love and Leftovers by Sarah Tregay

I work at a library and as I was doing some shelving this week I stumbled upon this book. The title and the cover caught my eye so I read the summary. After reading what this book was about I knew I had to read it. Sometimes you just need a good romance and this one sounds great!

Okay, I think the standard summary found on Amazon.com and found on the cover of the book is good. I mean it made me pick the book up and read it, but it by no means does this book justice! This book is refreshing! With a beach setting, a cute boy, first love, and best friends this book is a must read!

***WARNING: THE FOLLOWING  CONTAINS SPOILERS!***

What I liked:

I like Eli! He is different than a lot of guys in romance novels. He is not great with words, he is not cocky, he is not the answer to all of her problems, he is just simply there. And as all girls know that is usually all we need…just someone to be there. 🙂

I liked Maggie…to be honest I cannot think of a character I did not like in this book (with the exception of Auden’s mother). The characters were what made this story such an enjoyable read!

I liked that Auden grows without losing who she is! She is different at the end of the novel, but she is still intelligent and hard-working. I find that often times books make it seem that if a girl finds herself she must give up her dignity, intelligence, honesty, and just most of her overall good qualities. I hate that! Dessen does an awesome job of keeping her characters lovable and helping them become who they want to be at the same time!

I LOVED ELI AND AUDEN! They still make me smile!

I LOVED that this novel showed you can be feminine and intelligent at the same time. Imagine that…

What I did NOT like:

I did NOT like Auden’s mother she was well….unfriendly…to say the least…

I did NOT like Auden’s random moment with Jake in the beginning. It seemed very out of character and not really important for the plot.

I did NOT like that the story had to end! I wanted more of Eli and Auden!!!

Overall, I highly recommend this book and I cannot wait to read more by Sarah Dessen!

WWW Wednesday #2

I set a mid-year resolution and that is to read at least one book a week. I am hoping WWW Wednesdays will inspire me to keep up with this goal of mine. After all, I will need new books to write about each Wednesday. So here’s to hoping I can keep up…

What are you currently reading?

I am currently reading Sever by Lauren DeStefano. I loved Wither (the first book in The Chemical Garden Trilogy) and I was unsure how I felt about Fever (book two). I think it had a little bit of middle book syndrome, but I still wanted to finish the trilogy so now I am reading Sever. I’m only two or three chapters into this one, but so far so good…

What did you recently finish reading?

I recently finished reading The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. I will hopefully get to post a review on this one sometime in the next week or two because I loved it!

What do you think you’ll read next?

Next up on my reading list is The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. I loved The Lightning Thief and I know that I NEED to complete this series! It is great! I can’t believe I waited so long to read it!
